Fridays with Fynnlee

Today was the annual Halloween parade at school. For those of you that know me, you can attest that I hate Halloween. The dressing up part, in particular.  But dressing up the kiddos is going to be a lot of fun.

I didn’t want to blow through a lot of money this year (the beans can’t even walk yet!) so we were lucky enough to get Kendall’s cat costume for Fynnlee.

Throwback to Kendall wearing the same costume…when she was a year old.

Fynnlee Ann is slightly bigger than her cousin.

And she was slightly unimpressed with the whole parade situation.

Some might say she was bored.

But in her defense, she had just been rudely woken from a nap only to be shoved in her costume. By me. Her Mom…not her teachers.

Little brother was a ham, as usual.

She was more enthused with her after-bath attire last night. Cutest little wildflower I’ve ever seen.  She’s a wild flower, all right.

These Beans turn HALF A YEAR old today. I’m working on their 6 month update and as soon as I can stop bawling my eyes out, I’ll get it posted.

Slow down, Time! Dammit.

Tuesdays with Greyson

Happy Tuesday!!  I mean Wednesday! Where has this week gone???

We had some very special guests over the weekend. Grandma and Papa flew all the way from sunny Florida to hang out with us is dreary Pittsburgh! Not for nuthin….I’m starting to think Grandma is a jinx when it comes to weather. The last few times she’s been here, it’s been super yucky outside!

But not to worry…we had lots of fun indoors! We read books.  We played with toys. We bounced in our jumper. We took 500 pictures on Steeler Sunday with the self timer.

We had lots of outtakes…but we got a few good ones.

Too bad our team stunk up the joint.

It was a great weekend and we can’t wait to see them again over Christmas.  Which is only 58 days away!!

Meanwhile, our favorite little guy had another great week at school.

Yes boy and girls…he is always this happy.

Happy Hump Day!

Fridays with Fynnlee

Well hello there, Squishy!!  Good grief…she is adorable.

And Miss Fynnlee and her brother are really starting to act like siblings.

Lots of interacting. Lots of kicking each other. Lots of poking in the face. Lots of hand holding (which, in turn, leads to lots of heart explosions for their Mom). I am loving watching this relationship develop.

It was a good week for Fynn at school too!

Foot painting

Pumpkin gutting

Cobweb touching

Toy stacking

And book reading.

Their teacher told me they are stating to show some signs of “stranger danger”. I’ve noticed Fynnlee giving the side eye to anyone “new” holding her recently. There hasn’t been any meltdowns yet…but I fear they’re coming. My niece would scream in terror anytime she saw me until she was 2.  I KNOW!  Me!? But it’s true.

So please don’t be offended if the kiddos are a little standoffish the next time you see them. It’s just a phase I think all kids go through.

Tuesdays with Greyson

Little dude is almost ready to graduate to the big kid tub. (Yes, this is Greyson despite the pink washcloth).

And his tushy is adorable but GP needs to figure out how to roll belly to back. He’s still getting stuck and still getting pissed! Which is kinda cute until it’s 2 am and he will not stay on his back. (After 83947 times “rescuing” him, we put him in the rock n play. I knew it was a good idea to keep those around!!)

Still having a blast at daycare.

Still a mamas boy.

Or should I say…he’s a “mummy’s” boy?

Either way, he’s pretty perfect. And he now has TWO teeth!!  What the what?!

Fridays with Fynnlee

I love this week’s pictures so much. My daughter is so beautiful.

I hate this week’s pictures so much. My daughter is so grown up!

(and how cute are the Greyson photobombs in those 2 pictures?!).

Earlier this week, I was having a moment. I was mourning the itty bitty newborn we had just a mere 5 months ago. All of a sudden, she’s not so little any more. She doesn’t fit as well in the crook of my arm when I cradle her to feed. Her feet hang over the end of the swing. She’s pretty much busting out of the infant tub we use for nightly baths. It made me really sad. Time kinda sucks that way.

But then last night, Fynnlee woke up around midnight. She was fussy and crying and the usual pacifier/shushing/mobile tricks weren’t working. So I broke my own rules and plucked her out of the crib. And she threw her arms around my neck and sighed. It wasn’t an accident that they landed there…she deliberately wrapped her little arms around my neck and just wanted to be held. Although I was tired, it didn’t suck. And I kinda loved it.  I realized that I can’t make time slow down. No need to mourn the past. Just need to live in the present and enjoy each moment as they come. Because there are going to be lots of them. Great unexpected moments…

Ok, it’s Friday. Let’s lighten up a bit and talk about PEAS!  Not that you can really tell by this picture, but Fynn is NOT a fan!

So I probably definitely did the one thing you’re not supposed to do with veggies. I introduced them after yummy sweet fruit like bananas, pears, apples, MANGOS!  They’re ok with sweet potatoes, but again…sweet.  Peas are kind of on the yucky list at the moment.

For some reason, I’m not even a little bit worried.  I can sneak veggies into lots of stuff (mwhahahaaaa!) and let’s face it, Jerry didn’t eat a lot of veggies until he tried them roasted and covered in cheese/bacon.  So once I can jazz them up a bit, I’m sure they’ll come around.  Cuz really, how good could steamed/pureed/unseasoned peas be anyway?

But pumpkins are good!

And so are leaves…

And pumpkin play-doh

And Aunts who send us goodies in the mail!!  Aunt Steph has us stylin’ for Halloween!

Happy Friyay!

Tuesdays with Greyson

All of a sudden, we have a big boy on our hands!

Look at him! He’s doing a great job sitting up with a little assistance.

He has amazing hand-eye coordination and is holding onto everything!

He knows how to read.

Kidding. But he loves books and looking at his little “iPad”.

He can roll over back to belly like a madman.

But then he gets stuck on his belly and pitches a fit. Belly to back is a little rougher.

Doesn’t he look pissed??  Ahahahahaa! He does get mad, I swear.

And the biggest news of the week…our big boy got his first tooth this week!  Gah!! It’s the cutest little tooth in the history of teeth.

We had one rough night of sleep where he was up every. 20. minutes.  Jerry and I coasted on fumes (and lots and lots of caffeine) the next day, but the following night was much better. Thank you baby Tylenol!

Our little love muffin is really hitting a growth spurt.  He’s in all 6 month clothes and can fit in some 6-12 month stuff.  He changes every single day and it’s so amazing to watch!  I love this kiddo to the moon and back.

Fynnlee, Greyson

Fridays with Fynnlee (& Greyson)

This week kind of got away from me and before I knew it…Tuesday was over.  So we’re gonna combine the Bean’s features into one update.  And talk about helmets.

But first, we need to talk about these hats. I can’t even stand how cute they are!  Jerry was away for training (new job…woo hoo!) so Grandma came to stay with us for a week.  We had so much fun (despite her catching the stomach bug that our whole family had the week prior) and she brought these adorable pumpkin hats (that she knitted herself!) just in time for Fall to kick in.

One of the things we did during her stay was to pay a visit to Union Orthotics and Prosthetics to be fitted for their helmets.  They basically put the babes in that little STARscanner box and in literally 3 seconds, a digital image was produced of their skulls.
Prior to the scan, they put these little stockings and stickers on the Bean’s heads so they could get a very accurate image.

They were not bothered by them at all. I’m hoping that is an indication of how they will tolerate the helmets. And my goodness, do they look cute?!

After they were scanned, we had a discussion with the doctor about their head shape. (Actually, I’m not sure if she was a doctor. Doesn’t really matter.)  Here is a visual of the various flat head conditions.

stages-of-plag type-of-flat-head-syndrome

Fynnlee’s affliction is Brachycephaly, or a flattening on the back of the head, which also causes her skull to get wider. Her case is one of the mildest they have seen, but it still qualifies for treatment. Greyson has a pretty bad case of Plagiocephaly, or flattening of one side. This is due to his torticollis and the constant turning his head to the left.

Treatment times are minimum of 3 months. Fynn will probably only have to wear her helmet for 3 months and then she should be ok. Greyson will have to wear his through his first birthday, most likely. We will be opting for clear helmets because of Greyson’s skin sensitivity (we can closely monitor the cradle cap). And I’d like them to match so Fynn’s will be clear too. We can still bedazzle them with stickers and sparkles and junk, but I’m not sure I want to get into all of that. We’ll see.

And now for the weekly daycare photo dump. It was a fun week for the Beans!
