Tuesdays with Greyson

Bathtub edition

We all know how much lovebug adores bathtime. But this new found mobility has made it a lot more interesting.

The spigot makes an awesome new toy. The whale faucet cover was much needed.

Because Greyson refuses to sit down these days. And we had a few near misses with him almost banging his head into the metal.

Fortunately the floor of the tub is super textured so it’s very anti-slip. He is actually crawling now because of all his water practice (can’t army crawl under water!)

Tonight was the first time we bathed the Beans together. I was pretty gun shy before because they weren’t super stable sitting up. But they are pros now…that doesn’t mean I don’t watch them like a hawk. And have Jerry sit in the bathroom with me. Just in case..

Hope you all have a squeaky clean Tuesday!

Fynnlee, Greyson, Weekend

Easter Weekend 2016

I don’t know about you guys, but I could get used to 3 Day Weekends! I had Good Friday off, as did the kiddos. It was so nice to have a day off with the Beans. We had a blast playing all day and I got to catch up on all of our laundry during their epic 2 hours naps. Yes, napS. One in the morning & one in the afternoon! Hooray!

I wasn’t going to do Easter baskets for the kids this year for obvious reasons. But I changed my mind at the last minute and picked up a couple cute ones at Target (where else?). Grandma & Papa sent them a giant Mickey & Minnie from Florida and I found a few little things to add to them. The Mice were a huge hit and the other stuff…well, it was ok.

You might have seen the picture on Instagram but it’s all Mickey, all the time at our house. I know, I know…no screen time until they’re 2. (Who came up with that bright idea anyway?? I guarantee they didn’t have twins! Or they had tons of free time, a nanny, a chef and a housekeeper. This mama needs to get stuff done. And I’m 100% ok with my little Disney babysitters. Note: they usually sit in their highchairs to watch TV.)

So back to Easter. We had a cute Gymboree little dress ($4.99 from ThredUp!), a crisp white shirt from baby Gap w/ a baby bowtie and a perfect Spring Day. Photo Shoot!

Yeah, cold wet, grass is on Fynnlee’s most hated list.

The blanket made things a little better. But I had already soured the mood.

I couldn’t get a smile out of either of them to save my life! #momfail

We went to my Mom’s to eat too much Ham, scalloped potatoes, lasagne and chocolate eggs. Don’t my guys look super handsome? (note the Julius Cesear/Justin Bieber hair thing I mentioned on Greyson. He’s still adorable.)  Matching bowties from Haddon Co.

The babes were so well behaved while we ate dinner. Thanks to…you guessed it…Mickey Mouse Clubhouse!  Yes that’s a babydoll Greyson is playing with. And no, I do not see a problem with it.

Bring on Spring!

Fridays with Fynnlee (& Greyson)

You may have noticed…we are http://www.greyandfynn.com! There is no longer the .wordpress in our site address. Please make sure you update your Favorites!

In other news…the CRUD has officially left the building! It’s no secret that I’m a huge baby when I’m sick. Huge. I’m grumpy, irritable, my patience is zero…and all I want to do is sleep. Not the way the Matriarch of our little family is suppose to act. Needless to say, everyone is much happier when I feel better. And just in time for Spring to show up!

So let’s catch up on last week. Last Friday, the kids fell asleep on the way home from daycare so we decided to take advantage of their late nap and treat ourselves to a fun dinner out!

We’ve been dying to try the Pig Iron ever since it opened and it didn’t disappoint. I got the steak sandwich (don’t I always get the steak sandwich) and it was amazing! As were the fresh cut fries. And the fried pretzels with beer cheese dip and honey mustard. A healthy meal? No. But it was worth it!

Saturday was errand central. The kids fell asleep during our outing to Costco.

And Fynnlee kept on sleeping when we hit the market district. Greyson woke up and got to meet the Easter Bunny. He was a fan, clearly.

In other baby news, we’re hitting our strides with finger foods. My turkey meatloaf and steamed potatoes were well received.

Even by Fynnlee! Who is now putting everything in her mouth, smooshing it around and then spitting it right out.

Yes, I still consider this progress. PB (pre-Beans) I made a promise to myself never to post pictures of my kids with smashed, half eaten food on their faces. Because…Ew. But this is their story and sometimes it’s pretty Ew.

The whole family went to Greyson’s helmet appointment and the babes took over the waiting room.

toys = content babies = happy parents. That’s twin math, btw.

Look at them sharing! So sweet. And so brief. 2 seconds after snapping this picture, Greyson snatched the toy and Fynnlee started screaming. At least he’s giving her a taste of her own medicine.

Greyson’s head is still improving and we have another 4 weeks until our next appointment. I’m guessing he’ll be released from treatment at that point. Just in time for his first birthday haircut! We have a Julius Caesar/Justin Bieber situation going on with his hair at the moment. His bangs are all rubbed off in the front and the sides are about 4 inches long. Not his best look.

Our final note for the week is story time. We’ve incorporated more books into our nighttime routine and they love it so much. Greyson squeals at the sight of Cheep, Cheep Pop Up Fun and it’s a must read every single night. Popup books are their thing, fo sho.

And the best part of the recap…School Stuff!

They put their handprints on eggs.

and tried to eat them.

You know how they love to shake stuff in a can.

and beat it like a drum.

Is so exciting!

And guess who loves giant plastic eggs? Squish!

Apparently she loves them a lot.

Happy Spring and Happy Easter to those who celebrate!

Fridays with Fynnlee

I know it’s Sunday and this little update is 2 days late. We’ve been a little under the weather at our house.

Both kiddos have had a deep cough for about a week and then on Wednesday, they contacted me at daycare to let me know he’d been wheezing. He had also been pretty lethargic most of the day and his teachers were worried. We took him to the doctor and long story short, love bug has RSV. In a nutshell, RSV is a virus that infects the respiratory tract of infants. It’s pretty common, actually but can become pretty serious if left untreated.

They prescribed a nebulizer for us and Greyson has been doing breathing treatments every 4 hours. He’s been a little trooper and puts up with that mask as long as Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is on.

On Friday, they called me from school to let me know that Fynnlee had a fever of 101. She also had the cough but not the wheezing so we’ve been treating her with Tylenol and rest and both of the Beans are feeling back to their old crazy selves today.

So onto the reason we’re here…Fynnlee. Fynnlee, who successfully ate 8 puffs at school this week.

I know that doesn’t sound like much but it’s a pretty big in the world of Squish. Next stop…PIZZA!

She had a blast on pajama day playing with green sensory bottles.

They are prepping for St. Patty day early with giant shamrocks

More fun with sensory bottles

She’s discovered the joy of playing with babydolls!

It’s lots of fun to play with a green scarf…and share it with your BFF

So that was our week.

Oh, and we’re now a minivan family…it was bound to happen. It’s pretty sweet. And smarter than I am. All the hip Moms drive minivans these days…so I’m told.

Don’t forget to change your clocks…spring forward!

The Beans first roadtrip

We just spent a super fun weekend with Aunt Stephanie!

And it was the Beans first car ride over an hour.

I was nervous.

We were encouraged to avoid long car rides when the kids were younger due to Greyson’s torticollis but the physical therapist thinks he’s far enough in treatment that a 4 hour trip would be fine.

And for the most part, things went pretty well. They slept for 3 hours on the way to Stephanie’s but the last hour, they were pretty annoyed. On the way home, the slept about 1/2 the time. I sat in the back and we watched about 15 minutes of Mickey Mouse clubhouse on youtube and then read some books.

They screamed and fussed the rest of the time. Oh well.

It was definitely worth the trip. They had such a great time exploring Aunt Stephanie’s beautiful house while I sweated everytime they moved because she has so many amazing (and breakable) things in her house.

We camped out a lot in this room, which I baby proofed a bit. They loved her fuzzy sheepskin rug!

After a super horrendous night of sleep on Friday (oh Fynnlee…), we drank 87 cups of coffee and then headed to a farm!

We read lots and lots of books about farm animals so we thought they would be so excited to see all of them live & in person.

They were curious but still a little to get omgamoocow!! excited.

We saw some sweet baby pigs.

and Tom the turkey

Jerry and Fynn got up close and personal with this cow. If you know Jerry at all you find the fact that he is actually “petting” the cow hilarious!

Saturday nights sleep was a bit better. I apologized and climbed into bed around 7:45 and was blessed with 8 hours of ZZZs.

Aunt Steph made an awesome brunch for Sunday morning with an amazing coffee cake, strata and lots of fruit. The Beans got to meet some new friends and then, sadly, it’s was time to leave.

“Gimme the keys…I’ll drive!”

“I can’t drive FIFTY FIVE….”

It was a fantastic trip and we can’t wait to see Aunt Stephanie again next month.  Ya know…when the Beans turn ONE.

I can’t even.

Tuesdays with Greyson

Hello Hello! And happy Tuesday to you. We have a fun recap of our roadtrip to see Aunt Stephanie tomorrow. But today I have a little story to share.

This little lovebug wasn’t smiling this morning.

I was getting ready for work this morning and I was using my hair straightener in the bathroom. G.P. snuck up behind me, ninja style, and (unbeknownst to me) started playing with the cord. Remember I mentioned that he was obsessed with cords.

Yeah, well…he might not be anymore.

You know where I’m going with this.

I had no idea he was behind me when he yanked on the cord, pulling the (hot) straightener down on top of him. Thank goodness he was wearing his helmet bc it grazed his head and then hit the floor.

Little man cried for about 15 seconds after I scooped him up and cursed myself for being the worst Mom ever. I gave him a quick once over and fortunately, he was OK.

Flash forward to an hour later when we’re at school and I’m telling the whole thing to Miss Karen (who was kind enough to assure me that accidents happen and I shouldn’t feel too bad). Flash forward AGAIN to me sitting at my desk mid morning & getting a call from Miss Mariann that they found a burn mark on my little love bug’s hand!  Mom of the Year award REVOKED!

I called our pediatrician who said they get a call once or twice a month about curling iron and hair straightener burns and as long as it didn’t blister, he should be fine. I’m supposed to put Neosporin on it and keep it clean. Tylenol for any pain. So I went to daycare to check on him and I’m happy to report that he’s just fine. Scarred for life, but fine.

Learn from me, friends. Cords up!

In other G-man news, he continues to get stronger and more stable in standing. He can completely pull himself up now

And will cruise all around this round table at school.

He’s also gearing up for St. Patty’s day at school. Playing with a leprechaun’s hat….

And painting shamrocks with green paint…

Green makes a beautiful mess.

He’s mastered dumping all the toys out of the baskets…

And looking super cute when they tell him to smile.

The weather is so gorgeous here right now and we’re looking forward to a whole week of sunshine and temperate days. Hope yinz have a great one!

Fridays with Fynnlee

It’s Friday! It’s Friday! It’s Friday! It’s FRIDAY!

You’ll have to excuse my energetic outburst…I’m kinda shot out of a canon today thanks to THIS:

Oh yeah. That’s right baby! 7 1/2 hours. I didn’t even get up to pee. This little Squish is back in her parent’s good graces.

I heard Greyson babbling and couldn’t believe my eyes when I looked at the clock and it was 5:07. He started to fuss more so I got out of bed and Jerry muttered “I thought we were going to let them cry it out?”. That was our plan…which I’m terrible at implementing. “It’s 5:00”, I replied.

“SHUT. UP. You’re lying”! Nope, ALL TRUE! The kids must have heard our discussion about being totally over this waking-up-20-times-a-night nonsense.

The whole family is pretty happy today!

So I mentioned in their update that these kids are obsessed with cords. I got 1/2 hour to watch Jersey Shore reruns (don’t judge) thanks to the vacuum.

disclaimer: No children were left unsupervised while playing with this ridiculously long cord.

I know you all wait to see the fun that is had at school so let’s get to it.

I think this is a bus. Or a fire truck. I can’t remember…but Fynnlee wasn’t havin it.

She scooted right outta there! Not because she didn’t like it. Because she could #shelikestomoveitmoveit

You know she likes to shake stuff in a tub!

And bang on it like a drum

We need to get an exercise ball for our house. So fun!

Stacking cups are the best.

and painting is our favorite!

We’re gearing up for our very first long road trip. We’re going to see Aunt Stephanie!! It’s about a 4 hour trip so wish us luck.

Fynnlee, Greyson

Life with Greyson and Fynnlee – 10 months

So yeah, the kids are 10 months old and doing great and in 2 months they’ll be a year old and I’m totally fine with them growing up so quickly and soon they’ll be going away to college and won’t need me anymore and I can’t stop this run on sentence because if I do I will burst into tears.

Can I just mention how difficult it is to take these pictures now?! Good grief! Not so much with Greyson, because he’s my little angel and thinks I’m really funny. All I have to do it make race car sounds or snort like a pig and I have his full, giggly attention.

But this one. This little blur that is Non. Stop. these days. She’s making things pretty difficult.

Oh she also thinks I’m funny. But her response is to squeal and flail herself all over the joint.

And now that she can sit up? Quickly, I might add? She sees no need to lie sweetly on the blanket for her photo op.

I guess Greyson has his crazy moments too.

These little turkeys sure keep me on my toes.

Fynnlee Ann

Unofficial Weight: 23.5 lbs
Size 4 diapers
Burning through the last of our 9 month clothes…12 month fit her best.

* has 5 teeth. two on top and 3 on the bottom. GAH…I die over baby teeth.
* She claps! It’s pretty much the cutest thing ever.
* is a crawling machine. She’s a maniac. Leave her alone for 3 seconds and she’s in the dog’s water dish.
* can move from her belly to sitting. And loves to do it over and over again so she spins around the room. She looks like she’s breakdancing.
* will take lots of steps if you hold onto her hands. Once she gathers her balance, it’s all over.
* has started to cry when I walk out of a room. Part of me loves it. Part of me hates it. Most of me just runs over and picks her up. #shewontbelittleforever
* She says Dada all the time. Fine. But she said Ma last week and Jerry heard it. I don’t think she knows what either means though.

My sweet Squish is as spunky as ever. She grabs life by the horns and dives right in! Fynnlee is BUSY these days. Lots of places to go and things to do. FOMO is in full effect, more than ever. (for those of you out of the loop…Fear Of Missing Out is a big deal in Fynn’s world). She’s very indecisive these days, as well. Pick me up! Put me down! Pick me back up! Cuddle me! Stop cuddling! Scream! Giggle! Cry!…all within 30 seconds. She has become stingy with her snuggles. She will snuggle on her terms. Hug you on her terms. So when they come, I savor every second. This one makes you work for it…and I hope it always stays that way.

Greyson Paul

Unofficial Weight: 21 lbs
Size 4 diapers
9 month clothes. 9 month jams getting a little tight.

* has 6 teeth. Based on drool and sleep patterns, we’ve got a couple more coming in.
* Still not “crawling” crawling. He army crawls…and he is wicked fast.
* just started pulling himself to standing and can go from belly to sitting.
* He will shove 50 puffs in his mouth at one time if I let him.
* is obsessed with cords and strings. Obviously I’m cutting the strings off of everything & have become an eagle eye with cords.
* loves to stand up but has little interest in taking steps. His balance is getting really good though.
* favorites this month are Eskimo kisses, Old McDonald had a farm and my feet
* will turn any toy into a drum.

Greyson remains a little ray of sunshine. His days are filled with laughing and squealing and being happy 95% of the time. When he does cry, he gets my full attention because there is usually very good reason. He loves to cuddle and I take every single chance I get to snuggle him. He is still really good at occupying himself and loves to play. This child is also fearless. There is zero hesitation when approaching a new situation or object. He’s going to be our little daredevil. Jerry’s thrilled and I’m petrified. He’s also getting super ornery. Who knew!? You tell him no and he gets the most devilish look on his face and then does it anyway.

Greyson We’re still rocking the fruit veggie purees but Greyson is loving finger food. Puffs are crack. He’s really good with feeding himself and is getting annoyed with being spoon fed. He puts up with it because he has to (and loves to eat). At school, he is getting a taste of whatever they serve for lunch. He doesn’t eat it all but they encourage him to try. He loves yogurt and I just buy the big container of the plain, whole milk stuff and mix some puree in.

Fynnlee It’s baby steps with my favorite girl. She will open wide now and let you put a puff/yogurt melt/banana in her mouth. But then she laughs & spits it right out. She’s not gagging (or vomiting) so that’s major progress as far as I’m concerned. There aren’t too many foods that she doesn’t like. I thought I ruined their taste buds by adding fruit to pretty much all of their veggies early on. But she sucks down a spinach/pea/broccoli puree (that tastes like grass) in 2 seconds.

What’s missing this month is the spitting up. I’m not sure if it started last month or this month, but spitting up formula is a rare occurance. And when it happens, it’s a very small amount. They’re still drooling like St. Bernards…but I’m happy the spit up train has left the station!

Ok, the last 3 or 4 days have been a total shit show in the sleep department. One or both kids have been waking up…and staying up for over an hour…between 1 and 2 and then getting back up between 4-4:30. It hasn’t been pretty. I’m hoping it’s teething and perhaps a growth spurt. Pray for us!

But for most of the month, it’s been sleep by 6:30…up at 4:44. Pretty much every day (thank you fitbit sleep tracker.) And if anyone wants to give me crap about going to bed at 8:30, come on over and take the morning shift. Seriously, who can complain about their kiddos sleeping 10+ hours over night? Without waking up? I think I’m exhausted and then I get over myself. We have it pretty good! There were a few nights where Greyson was getting up a lot. And now Fynnlee has been hitting a salty streak of waking up screaming. Baby teeth are the cutest once they pop through…but while they’re coming in, HOLY GEEZ. They suck! I’m hoping once daylight savings time hits in a few weeks, we’ll get to keep them up until 7:30 and they will sleep until 5:44 (please please please please please). Fingers crossed.

Naps are unpredictable. On the weekends we generally get a good one hour nap in the morning and then another one to two hour car nap while we’re running around. At school, Greyson takes a good 1-1.5 hour snooze in the am and then another one in the afternoon. Fynnlee has recently decided that it’s way more fun to play all morning than to sleep. So she’s down to one nap around 2ish. Her teachers say she’s not fussy or cranky so we’re going with it. Once they transition to the toddler room (I DONT WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT!) , they will only have one nap after lunch so she’s a little ahead of the curve.

I got nothin.

Helmet Update

We have a graduate!

The kids had their final scan at Union Prosthetics and a follow up evaluation at Children’s Hospital yesterday. Fynnlee’s growth was pretty much perfect and she was discharged from their care. The helmet is being replaced with new headgear!

The progress is pretty impressive. I’ve very happy with our decision to have her treated with the helmet. It really was no big deal to her and I’m pretty sure she’ll be happy with our decision too, one day.

Greyson still needs to wear his for another month or two (or three). They are very pleased with his progress and it’s so much better than it was. But the variation is still outside of the “acceptable” range so they feel he would benefit from additional time. He could care less.

So that’s what’s going on with our Beans. Things are so crazy/wild/awesome these days. New skills are popping up every time I turn around. It’s fascinating to watch them learn and grow. When I look back to where they were 4, 5, 6 months ago, it’s insane. I am so unbelievably proud of these two…I’m so lucky to have them in my life and look forward to every new adventure.
