Catching Up

I swear…I didn’t intend for this blog to become so stale! It’s really not my intention to post once a month. But that seems to be the recent trend. Due to forces beyond my control (the holidays, busy schedules, my offices beefed up firewall), blogging has been put on the back burner. But things will be better in 2018 (promise) and I’m not waiting till then to get back in a groove.

So let’s catch up.

Life Lately…

Hi there friends! Long time no see (or talk). Broken record over here…I’ve been meaning to blog but things have been pretty crazy in the last month. And when they’re not crazy, I’m lazy so….

Let’s catch up!

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and we are going to do it up right. We have a weekend chock full of fun that kicks off tonight with the arrival of Aunt Steph & GG! Grammy & Grandpa Carl are coming over too for soup and sandwiches so it’ll be a full house at our place for T’giving Eve. Thanksgiving day will be spent and Grandma & Papa’s (with Grandpa Jim & Grandma Anna joining us for turkey day) and then we have Light Up night on Friday, dinner with friends at Tako on Saturday and who knows what else on Sunday. Whew! I’m gonna need a weekend to recover from my holiday weekend.

Here’s a little snapshot of what the kids have been up to the past few weeks:

Super hero birthday party for our friend Brooke

Trains and Cars and Painting at Children’s Museum

Fun for Daddy too…

Hitting up the playground on the weekend

And at school

And getting into all sorts of fun activities in the classroom

We have so much to be Thankful for. Enjoy your holiday!

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everyone! Poor sweetpea came down with a wicked chest cold over the weekend and almost wiped out her chances of attending the big parade today. You might recall, Greyson had a double ear infection last year and missed out on all the fun. But Fynnlee rallied and started to feel better just in time. Good thing too because Grandma Lois spent a lot of time working on the perfect Mickey & Minnie costumes for our favorite kiddos! Wait till you see how cute they turned out!

But first, let’s check in on some past Halloween favorites.

2014 – Jerry & I made it Facebook Official…Two new Soscia’s were going to be making their debut in 2015!

2015 – Six months old and their first Halloween.

The sweetest little frog you ever did see.

And the sassiest kitty on the planet!

Clearly their first parade was thrilling.

2016 – A year and a half old. Greyson Paul stayed home with Mom while our squishy octopus snagged all the candy she could get!

Again, thrilled at the concept of parade.

2017 – 2.5 years old. “Mick and Mimmie”…I’ve been planning this for months!

Seriously, she is perfection. Even when she doesn’t feel 100%

One pack of Skittles later…the sugar high kicks in! Parades are fun!

I can’t even. He gets cuter every time I see him.  Now he gets it…parade = candy!

Thank you for our awesome costumes Grandma! I have a feeling they will be making an appearance in the future.

It’s supposed to be in the low 40s and rainy tonight. So we’ll probably take advantage of the fact that our kids have no idea what trick or treating is and keep them home . But for all you little monsters headed out…Be safe!

Happy Halloween!

Weekend

Pumpkin Patch 2017

Hello Friends! Guess what we did over the weekend? We finally hit the pumpkin patch! Ya know…that fun October tradition where you take your family to a local farm (with 802738 of your closest friends). And you pick out a pumpkin and try to take a super adorable pumpkin patch photo of your kids?

You remember this gem from last year, right?

Well the sun was shining and the temps were in the mid 70s on Sunday. So we put on our shorts and t-shirts and hit Shenot Farm bright and early. I’ve mentioned Shenot’s before. I’m kind of obsessed with the place. It’s a smaller farm, right down the road from the Mega Farm, Soergel’s Orchards. I just can’t with Soergel’s anymore. Too many people…it’s miserable chaos. So we go to Shenot’s. They have the best corn in the summer and the best apples in the fall.

We were some of the first people in line at 10:55 and we got our hayride tickets right away. $2/pp and the kids were free. And you get a free apple!

My photo taking skills were on point for this trip, btw.

The kids loved the hayride. BUMPY!  And we could see all the pumpkins as we made our way to the top of the hill. PUMPKINS!

As soon as we got to the pumpkin patch, we tried for a photo. Better than last year!

I made them suffer through taking about 47 pictures. Bug just wasn’t having it.

These were the best!

They were so cute trying to lift all of the pumpkins. HEAVY!

Greyson lead us through the corn maze. THIS WAY GUYS!

It’s a pretty clichéd tradition.

But it’s a pretty fun one too.

And as these kids get older…

The better it gets!

Happy Fall, Y’all!

Weekend

Life Lately

Hi Friends! Happy October. Temps in Pittsburgh are supposed to be in the 80s today so it’s not too Fall-like at the moment. But I’m not complaining! I sent the kids to school in shorts, t-shirts and sandals today. Temps will be dipping soon enough.

So I thought I’d play catch up and tell yinz guys a little about what we’ve been up to lately. Let’s get started.

Nemacolin Woodlands

So if you’re not local, you may not know about this little gem in Western PA. Nemacolin Woodlands is an upscale resort in the Laurel Highlands. They have a championship golf course, a spa, a casino and some pretty high end restaurants.

Jerry had a work conference at the resort a couple of weekends ago and we thought it would be a great time to celebrate our 6 year anniversary!

So we left the kiddos with some very capable grandparents and headed to the mountains on Friday afternoon. Jerry told me that he would be working most of Friday and some of Saturday morning so I’d be on my own. And would that be OK? Um, really?

It was a beautiful day and I lounged around the (adult) pool, read a book and ate my weight in guacamole.

And went to sleep at 8:30. It was glorious.

He had to work a couple hours on Saturday and then he was free to take off. We had a lovely breakfast and then hiked around the property.

They have a piece of the Berlin Wall. Very cool.

Downtown Pittsburgh

We left Nemacolin and headed back to Pittsburgh. We were continuing our anniversary weekend with a night downtown! Considering we used to live in the city, this shouldn’t be so thrilling. But 3 years and two kids later, it was fun to explore our hometown with new eyes.

We finally got to eat at Tako! I’ve been wanting to check out this place forever (tacos are my love language) but every time we get a free night, the only reservations they have are for 10:30. Which is 2 hours past my bed time.

So these might be the worst pictures you’ll ever see on the blog. And will not do this place justice. The restaurant is really dark though (and loud!) so getting a good photo was pretty difficult.

They make their own tortillas right in front of you. Crazy good. And the queso fundido was off the charts. gooey cheese with house made chorizo sausage. Topped with scallions, cilantro and shishito peppers. oh em gee.

We had the Korean (short rib), Baja (crispy fish) and Al Pastor. There are two per order and I tried to shovel that last taco in, but I only had a bite. I was too full. The Korean was the standout for me. So much flavor!

Living Treasures

We continue to put our season pass to good use. I asked Fynn last weekend “Do you want to go to the pumpkin patch or to see the animals?” She didn’t hesitate. “AMOLES!” Girlfriend is obsessed with them now.

Greyson is also a fan but still prefers to push the stroller around.

It was a beautiful Sunday, on the cooler side and all of the animals were out.

Including the new baby giraffe!! Calvin was just born on August 27th

We fed the Amoles…ahem Animals

And rode the ponies…

Big fans of the ponies.

We plan on trying out the other location next!

So far, Fall has been treating us pretty well. We still have a lot of activities to cross off our bucket list and I promise to document them on this little blog! Happy Fall, Y’all Yinz!

2017 Mug Exchange

So let’s forget the fact that I’ve turned into an awful blogger over the last couple of months. I have good intentions but man, time gets away from me. But I’m determined to get back in the game and I’m letting Stephanie’s Mug Exchange give me the jump start I need.

To know me is to know that I LOVE coffee. When I saw this Mug Love Exchange pop up on Danielle’s blog, I knew I wanted in on it!

I was paired up with Bri from School in our Slippers. Bri is kind of like Superwoman. Not only does she have 4 beautiful kiddos…she’s homeschooling them too!  And I’m not gonna lie…her pics of sweet baby Rutley totally give me baby fever and now I want like 62 more kids. (Calm down, Jerry. I know…we’re done).

Bri sent me a list of some mugs that she liked and I immediately saw she had fabulous taste. It was just like mine!! And I am absolutely in love with the one she sent. It’s the perfect size (LARGE) and the design sets the mood for fall but will be fun to use all year long.

She also sent this adorable house for the kids to put together. The Beans love crafts so we’re super excited for this. Plus some coffee for me (yay!) and some candy corn for snacking.

This was such a fun blogger exchange and I just love “meeting” new friends. It looks like Bri got our care package so pop on over to her blog and check it out. And say Hi while you’re at it!

Thank you for my new favorite mug, Bri! It’s going to get a LOT of use! xo

The Beans

OCMD 2017

I don’t know about yinz guys but September has been a blur! I’m honestly not sure how this month slipped by but it’s been a pretty good one for our family.

We went to the beach!

This motley crew, plus Aunt Stephanie, took over the beaches of Ocean City, MD during the second week of September. And let me just say…it’s the way to do it! Crowds were sparse, the beach was empty, the ocean was warm(ish), and the cost was so much lower than peak season.

I thinks it’s safe to say…we have a new Soscia family tradition (at least until the kids are in school).

We booked our OCEAN FRONT condo with Coldwell Banker Vacations and they were so easy to work with. I found our condo right on their website and they made the process pretty seamless. Just how I like it.

So who was in attendance for this trip? Greyson & Fynnlee, obviously. Jarrad and I.

Grandma Anna

Grandpa Jim

Aunt Steph

And Grandma and Papa.

We had a full house. But the great thing about our condo (other than being RIGHT ON THE BEACH) was it had 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. So plenty of room to spread out.

Greyson and Fynnlee were so spoiled by tons of attention from their grandparents, plus Aunt Steph, plus their parents…so this vacation was awesome from the get go. But never mind that. These babes fell in love with the beach and the ocean! Oh my heart…I was hoping they would love it is as much as I do. Give them all the sand and all the salt water and they were happy as clams. As documented in the photos.

Greyson was afraid of the water at first…that fear was squashed by the end of the week. And Fynnlee didn’t love the sand at the beginning of the summer…and that fear was squashed the minute her feet touched the beach.

So what else did we do? A giant kitchen clambake (another Soscia family beach tradition)

Stephanie and I have this perfected!

A few days were spent on the boardwalk

But the best part of the trip, was soaking up the days with my sweet babes and my amazing husband (we celebrated 6 years together at on vacation).  Plus our fabulous families…b/c let’s face it. It takes a village to create a great vacation!

My goodness…I love this family of mine.

My happy place is by the ocean, with my feet in the sand. I’m so thrilled that our kiddos feel the same way. Till next year, OCMD!
