Fridays with Fynnlee

I know it’s Sunday and this little update is 2 days late. We’ve been a little under the weather at our house.

Both kiddos have had a deep cough for about a week and then on Wednesday, they contacted me at daycare to let me know he’d been wheezing. He had also been pretty lethargic most of the day and his teachers were worried. We took him to the doctor and long story short, love bug has RSV. In a nutshell, RSV is a virus that infects the respiratory tract of infants. It’s pretty common, actually but can become pretty serious if left untreated.

They prescribed a nebulizer for us and Greyson has been doing breathing treatments every 4 hours. He’s been a little trooper and puts up with that mask as long as Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is on.

On Friday, they called me from school to let me know that Fynnlee had a fever of 101. She also had the cough but not the wheezing so we’ve been treating her with Tylenol and rest and both of the Beans are feeling back to their old crazy selves today.

So onto the reason we’re here…Fynnlee. Fynnlee, who successfully ate 8 puffs at school this week.

I know that doesn’t sound like much but it’s a pretty big in the world of Squish. Next stop…PIZZA!

She had a blast on pajama day playing with green sensory bottles.

They are prepping for St. Patty day early with giant shamrocks

More fun with sensory bottles

She’s discovered the joy of playing with babydolls!

It’s lots of fun to play with a green scarf…and share it with your BFF

So that was our week.

Oh, and we’re now a minivan family…it was bound to happen. It’s pretty sweet. And smarter than I am. All the hip Moms drive minivans these days…so I’m told.

Don’t forget to change your clocks…spring forward!

The Beans first roadtrip

We just spent a super fun weekend with Aunt Stephanie!

And it was the Beans first car ride over an hour.

I was nervous.

We were encouraged to avoid long car rides when the kids were younger due to Greyson’s torticollis but the physical therapist thinks he’s far enough in treatment that a 4 hour trip would be fine.

And for the most part, things went pretty well. They slept for 3 hours on the way to Stephanie’s but the last hour, they were pretty annoyed. On the way home, the slept about 1/2 the time. I sat in the back and we watched about 15 minutes of Mickey Mouse clubhouse on youtube and then read some books.

They screamed and fussed the rest of the time. Oh well.

It was definitely worth the trip. They had such a great time exploring Aunt Stephanie’s beautiful house while I sweated everytime they moved because she has so many amazing (and breakable) things in her house.

We camped out a lot in this room, which I baby proofed a bit. They loved her fuzzy sheepskin rug!

After a super horrendous night of sleep on Friday (oh Fynnlee…), we drank 87 cups of coffee and then headed to a farm!

We read lots and lots of books about farm animals so we thought they would be so excited to see all of them live & in person.

They were curious but still a little to get omgamoocow!! excited.

We saw some sweet baby pigs.

and Tom the turkey

Jerry and Fynn got up close and personal with this cow. If you know Jerry at all you find the fact that he is actually “petting” the cow hilarious!

Saturday nights sleep was a bit better. I apologized and climbed into bed around 7:45 and was blessed with 8 hours of ZZZs.

Aunt Steph made an awesome brunch for Sunday morning with an amazing coffee cake, strata and lots of fruit. The Beans got to meet some new friends and then, sadly, it’s was time to leave.

“Gimme the keys…I’ll drive!”

“I can’t drive FIFTY FIVE….”

It was a fantastic trip and we can’t wait to see Aunt Stephanie again next month.  Ya know…when the Beans turn ONE.

I can’t even.

Fridays with Fynnlee

Like any new parent, I have 500 million pictures of my kids. And I’m in about 14 of them.  I never think to say to someone, “could you please take our picture?”

But thankfully, I sometimes remember to selfie! And I’m teaching Fynnlee well…

Sorry to make this post quick, but as you might have seen on Facebook or Instagram…we’re soaking up some family time in the sun.

And I’ll admit…Florida doesn’t suck.

But since everyone loves to see fun at school, here is a wrap up of Fynnlee’s short week.

Our girl loves shaking things in big tubs of Tupperware!

And sensory bottles filled with candy hearts are pretty sweet.

Hope you have a sunny weekend!

Tuesdays with Greyson

Today’s update is gonna be a quick one…tomorrow I’ll be posting the Beans 9 Month update.

First up for today though, who wants to take a bath in the sink? Greyson does! Jerry had to take Jacob to the vet to have his eyes checked so I took care of the bedtime routine solo. It’s not my favorite task but this little love bug made it pretty tolerable.

He managed to splash water all over the kitchen. But he had fun so who cares!

So what happened at school? Peekaboo is a new favorite.

There were books about penguins

And balls to bounce.

He made snow tracks with his car.

And got messy painting foil.

Have a great Tuesday!

Thursday with Fynnlee

We get out Fynnlee segment a bit early this week due to the big holiday tomorrow.

I’m going to do a big Christmas holiday wrap up post next week. But here’s a sneak peek of everyone’s favorite little squish.

She (and her brother) have been rockstars on this trip. I’m pretty proud of them. She mastered the art of the hotel bed nap on day one.

We played games on the floor at the airport. I know….ew.

And we’ve played with jingle bells for hours.

We’re having a a pretty great holiday! I hope you and yours are surrounded by love tonight.
Merry Christmas Eve!

Tuesdays with Greyson

We finally were able to get our pictures with Santa over the weekend. As you can see, it was worth the wait….

The whole process was pretty ridiculous. We had an appointment so we got to jump the whole line of 30+ people…and that was pretty great. But they basically say “It’s your turn” and rush you into the pictures. Poor Fynnlee was asleep and I basically just woke her up and plopped her on Santas lap. Greyson was awake but he was so confused that he refused to smile. They give you about 15 seconds to get a reaction out of the kids and the picture above was the best of the 5 they took. We’re not going to Ross Park Mall next year.

In other holiday news, we are in full celebration mode! Most of our gifts are wrapped and under the tree. Scootchie McScooter can worm his way right over the tree and loves to crinkle the paper with his little fingers.

We celebrated Christmas with Grandpa Jim & Grandma Anna on Saturday and the kids are already spoiled. Of course I didn’t take any pictures but they got this fun walker toy, a Baby Einstein Activity table, some books and a fresh pack of boogie wipes (bc you can never have too many packs of boogie wipes!).

We hung around the house on Sunday, cheering on the home team and packing for our big trip. We are pretty much taking 1/2 of our house to Rhode Island.

Seriously, we have a suitcase for the Beans, a suitcase for Jerry and I, a carryon suitcase for presents, two diaper bags for the plane and a tote bag of my extra junk. Ya know, because they don’t have any stores in Providence…

It should be interesting. I never did post about our experience flying with 2 month olds (which was a piece of cake). But I definitely plan on doing one about flying with 8 month olds. It should be an adventure!

Poor lovebug only had 3 days of school last week because he was sick. But they were fun ones!

Painting is always a good time

Hmmmm, not so sure about those bubbles

Pinecones are cool. And Greyson is cute.

See you in a few hours, Rhode Island!

Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Muffins

If you like your muffins to taste like cupcakes, please move along.  There is very little sugar in this recipe and it’s just perfect for me.  But I’m not a huge fan of sweet.  There is lots of wholesome goodness packed in a small package. I’ve topped them with a little butter and they are fantastic…but they’re pretty tasty all by themselves.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Combine the following dry ingredients in large bowl, mix well

1 ¼ cup rolled oats
1 cup whole wheat pastry flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 Tablespoons ground flax seed
1/3 cup chopped walnuts

Combine the following wet ingredients in a separate bowl, whisk to combine.

1/2 cup milk (I used 2%)
6 oz vanilla greek yogurt (should be @ ½ cup) – I used an 5.3 oz individual Chobani cup
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
2 Tablespoons honey or maple syrup
2 eggs

Sauté the following in skillet until the apples are soft.

1/4 cup organic coconut oil
1 apple, chopped
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Add the sautéed apples and wet ingredients in with the dry and stir to combine. Don’t overmix.

Spoon batter into lined or greased muffin tins (I used mini muffin tins).

Bake for 15-20 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Friday Favorites #5

Here are some of the things I’ve been loving lately.

Engine 2 Brown Rice Tortillas

I have been avoiding wheat lately.  I had been saying that I was avoiding gluten, but really, it’s the wheat I’m trying to stay away from.

On a recent trip to Whole Foods, I found these Engine 2 Brown Rice Tortillas and decided to give them a shot. They are minimally processed and chock full of natural ingredients.  Which means they probably taste like cardboard.

I would like to introduce you to my latest obsession.  Obsession as in I’ve eaten this tortilla pizza 3 times this week.  It would have been 4 but Jerry wouldn’t let me.  He wanted sausage and peppers.  Feast your eyes on pizza perfection!

All right, all right…it’s not pizza perfection.  But I’m striving for 6 pack flatter abs not pizza dough abs right now and this is seriously saving me from my pizza cravings.

Basic recipe:

1 tortilla (brown rice or whole grain) – 150 calories
1/2 cup marinara sauce (I used Simply Nature from Aldi…it’s my favorite!) – 40 calories
1/4 cup shredded parmesan – 70 calories
1/4 cup part skim mozzarella or 2% sharp cheddar – 70 calories

330 calories!  I added 1 T of bacon bits (Wellshire Farms are the best) to this one (35 cal) and cooked it in my toaster oven at 400 for 10 minutes.  You will be surprised how much the low fat cheese melts and does not taste like plastic.  The tortilla crust gets crispy but not dry and brittle.  Quick, easy and deeeelicious!

I cannot tell you how these tortillas taste in any other form. Wrap, quesadilla, tortilla chips?? I got nothin’. Just pizza. Always pizza.

These are not a Friday favorite.  These are an all-time favorite!  My favorite candy EVER!  I am not the only one who likes them because they still sell them everywhere.  I am, however, the only one I know who likes them.  Which doesn’t bother me in the slightest. More for Jujubes for me.

why yes, I was so excited about eating them that I took a picture and posted it on Instagram

Jacob the Great

We hit the jackpot when we adopted this guy last July.

I just love him to pieces.  That is all.

Iced Green Tea

White Mangosteen Peach Green Tea

This Lipton Peach Green Tea is my new favorite beverage.  Water, water, and more water is the name of the game these days for me.  I’m trying to take in a 1 gallon per day (which is not tough for me…I’ve always been a big water drinker).  But man, ya need to switch it up every once in a while!  So I brew a big cup of green tea in the morning and pour it over ice at lunch time.  Repeat after lunch for a late day pick-me-up.  It’s so refreshing!  I can see this becoming a big staple in my house over the summer.

Alternative Work Schedule = Pool time!

I am very fortunate to work for a company that offers flexible work time.  Beginning June 2, I start a 9/80 schedule.  My work day will increase by 1 hour and I will have every other Friday off.  It’s kind of like getting 26 extra vacation days per year.  Whhyyyyyyyyy haven’t I don’t this before?!?!

I currently work 7-4 and when we lived in the Southside, this afforded me a 30 minute commute each way.  Heading home @ 4:30 or 5:00 tacked 20-30 minutes on to that and I really didn’t want to get home so late.  But now that my commute is 10 minutes (if that).

So every other Friday, you will find me here.  The pool opens this weekend!

Happy Friday!
